This avalanche was triggered with explosives by the Big Sky Ski Patrol. The snow structure at the crown was very similar to the snow Mark found on a slope in Beehive Basin (his snowpit). Mark's stability tests showed stability, but he did not believe it given the poor structure. Be on the lookout for false stable test results. Photo: BSSP
A snowmobiler likely triggered an avalanche adjacent to the slides from last week. Hard slabs of wind blown snow are being triggered from thinner areas of the slope. A skier triggered this slide near Flathead Pass on Saturday. The slide failed a layer of facets buried 2-3 feet deep. It was triggered at rocks visible near the crown; however, these rocks were not visible prior to the avalanche. Photo Clark Corey
