This avalanche was triggered with explosives by the Big Sky Ski Patrol.  The snow structure at the crown was very similar to the snow Mark found on a slope in Beehive Basin (his snowpit).  Mark's stability tests showed stability, but he did not believe it given the poor structure.  Be on the lookout for false stable test results. A snowmobiler likely triggered an avalanche adjacent to the slides from last week.  Hard slabs of wind blown snow are being triggered from thinner areas of the slope. A skier triggered this slide near Flathead Pass on Saturday.  The slide failed a layer of facets buried 2-3 feet deep. It was triggered at rocks visible near the crown; however, these rocks were not visible prior to the avalanche.  Photo Clark Corey
