At 5 a.m. the mountains near Big Sky and Hyalite have 2-3” of new snow with a trace elsewhere. Temperatures are high 20s to low 30s F with west to northwest wind at 5-15 mph. Today, temperatures will reach low 30s with west to northwest wind at 10-20 mph. Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon with light snow and rain through the day. Tonight, temperatures will drop to low 20s and teens F and the mountains will get 1-3” of snow by morning with 3-5” possible near Cooke City.
Over the past 24 hours, a surprise storm dropped two feet of snow in the Bridger Range and the ski area will be open for two more weeks! April Fools. Since yesterday morning, a trace to 1” of snow fell in the mountains across the advisory area. At 5 a.m. temperatures are in the 20s F under mostly clear skies. Winds are blowing 5-15 mph out of W-SW with the excepting of the mountains around West Yellowstone and Cooke City where winds are blowing out of the E-SE. Today, skies will remain mostly clear and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s to low 40s F. Winds will remain light to moderate out of the west. The current ridge of high pressure breaks down this evening increasing the chance of valley rain and mountain snow tonight and tomorrow.
Since yesterday morning 1-2” of snow fell in the mountains. At 5 a.m. temperatures range from the mid-20s to low 30s F under mostly cloudy skies and winds are blowing 15-25 mph out of the E-NE. Today, east winds will continue which will reduce the potential for mountain snow. Skies will be mostly cloudy this morning, but become partly cloudy buy this afternoon. Temperatures will warm into the upper 20s to high 30s F and winds will continue to blow 15-25 out of the E-NE. A ridge of high pressure builds over the area tonight producing sunny and warm conditions tomorrow.
At 5 a.m. it’s raining in the valley and snowing in the mountains. Snow level is currently around 7,000 feet. Overnight, the mountains south of Bozeman picked up 4-6” of new snow while Bridger Range and northern Gallatin Range picked up 3-4”. This morning, temps range from the upper 20s to low 30s F and winds are blowing 5-15 mph out of the W-SW. Today, temps will only warm a few degrees and winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-SW. Snow will continue across the advisory area favoring the mountains south of Bozeman. By tomorrow morning the southern ranges including Big Sky will see an additional 4-6” of new snow while the mountains around Bozeman will see 2-4”.
Under partly cloudy skies temperatures are in the low 20s and ridgetop winds are blowing 10-15 mph with gusts of 20-25 out of the W-SW. Clouds will increase today as temperatures rise into the upper 30s with increasing southwest winds. By early evening rain will fall in the valleys and snow at the upper elevations. Freezing lines will be 6500’ in the south and near 7500’ in the north. By morning there will be 3-4” of new snow in the mountains near West Yellowstone and Cooke City and 1-2” elsewhere. Snowfall will continue through Thursday.
In the last 24 hours Cooke City has gotten 5” of new snow with 3-4” in other locations, except the Bridger Range which picked up an inch. Temperatures are in the high teens to low 20s with N-NW ridgetop winds blowing 10-20 mph. Today will become sunny with temperatures reaching 40F and winds switching west at 10 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy with no precipitation expected until Wednesday evening.
At 4 a.m. the mountains have 2” of new snow in the southern ranges and 1” in the north. Snotel has not reported data since midnight and snow amounts could be slightly higher in the southern ranges. Temperatures this morning are 20s F and wind overnight was southwest at 10-20 mph with gusts of 30-40 mph. Temperatures today will be high 20s to 30s F with wind at 5-15 mph out of the southwest today and north to northwest tonight. Mostly cloudy skies and light snow showers today precede increased snowfall this evening. The mountains could get 3-6” near Bozeman and Big Sky with 1-2” elsewhere.
Since yesterday morning the southern mountains got 1-2” of new snow and the northern mountains did not get any. Temperatures this morning are teens to low 20s F. Wind is 5-10 mph out of the west to southwest and northwest near Cooke City. Today, under partly sunny skies temperatures will be high 20s to low 30s F with west to southwest wind at 5-10 mph. Light snow tonight could produce 1-2” near Big Sky and in the southern ranges with a trace to 1” near Bozeman.
At 6 a.m. there’s rain in the valley and snow in the mountains. There is 4” of dense new snow in the Bridger Range, 2” near West Yellowstone, and 1” near Big Sky and Cooke City. Temperatures are high 20s and low 30s F with west to southwest wind at 15-25 mph. Temperatures will reach the low 30s F today then drop to the teens F tonight. Wind will be 5-15 mph out of the west to southwest in the southern ranges and northwest near Bozeman. Snow will taper off this morning with mostly cloudy skies today and scattered snow showers tonight. By tomorrow morning the mountains will get 3-5” of snow near Bozeman and Cooke City with 1-2” near Big Sky and West Yellowstone.
This morning mountain temperatures are in the 20s F under mostly clear skies and winds are blowing 10-25 mph out of the W-SW. Skies will remain mostly clear this morning and highs will warm into the low to upper 30s by this afternoon. Increasing clouds and wind impact the area later today as the existing ridge of high pressure breaks down. Wind gusts upwards of 40 mph can be expected at upper elevations later today. Precipitation builds over the mountains tonight and the southern ranges could see 1-2” of snow by tomorrow morning.
