The northwest flow is doing its magic at Bridger Bowl. Yesterday, they got 5 inches of powder so light it did not register on the snow sensors and last night another 13 inches fell. The rest of our area got 1-2 inches from Big Sky to Bozeman and a trace to an inch everywhere else. Winds are westerly and averaging 10-15 mph with gusts of 20-30 mph. Temperatures are in the low single digits F. At 5 a.m. snowfall is tapering as the northwest flow breaks down and a few more inches may be wrung out. Today, most of our area will have partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-20s and 1 to 2 inches falling tonight.
The Big Sky Ski Patrol reported a rogue 2-inch dump yesterday morning while other areas remained dry. At 5 a.m., winds are light out of the west to northwest with mountain temperatures reading a few degrees above zero (F) in the northern ranges and a few degrees below zero around West Yellowstone and Cooke City. Today we will see partly cloudy skies, continued light winds and temperatures warming into the low 20s. The next snowfall may occur Thursday afternoon, unless a few rogue inches mount a surprise attack.
A weak northwest flow is producing cold and unsettled conditions across southwest Montana. Overnight the mountains picked up a trace to one inch of snow. This morning temperatures range from five below zero in Cooke City to the single digits above zero elsewhere and winds are blowing 5-15 mph out of the NW. Today, temps will struggle to warm into the low teens F and winds will remain light out of NW. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy and there’s a slight chance of mountain snow showers this afternoon. A northwest flow will keep conditions unsettled over the next 24 hours, but no major snow accumulation is expected.
Overnight the mountains picked up a trace to one inch of new snow. This morning, temperatures range from the single digits to low teens F and winds are blowing 5-20 mph out of the W-SW. Today, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy and there is a slight chance for a mountain snow shower this afternoon, but no real accumulation is expected. Highs will warm into the mid-teens to low 20s F and winds will gradually shift to the W-NW. No significant snowfall is expected over the next 24 hours.
Over the past 24 hours the mountains around West Yellowstone and Cook City picked up 10-12 inches of new snow, while the mountains around Bozeman and Big Sky picked up 4-8 inches. At 4 a.m. snow has stopped falling and temperatures range from the single digits to mid-teens F. Winds are blowing 15-30 mph out of the W-SW with ridgetop gusts exceeding 40 mph. Temperatures will warm into the upper teens to mid-20s F and winds will remain moderate to strong out of the W-SW. Skies will be partly cloudy this morning, but will become increasingly cloudy by this afternoon. The next storm arrives tonight bringing a good chance of mountain snow through tomorrow morning. The southern ranges should see 4-6 inches overnight while the northern ranges will see 2-4 inches.
Last night the mountains received 2-3” of new snow. Winds were westerly at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Temperatures this morning are in the teens to low 20s F. Today, temperatures will reach the high 20s F. Wind will continue to blow 20-30 mph out of the west-southwest with speeds increasing up to 40 mph this evening. Snow showers will begin this afternoon and favor the southern mountains with 6-9” by tomorrow morning, while the northern mountains will get 3-5”.
Over the last 24 hours, temperatures reached the mid-30s F in the northern mountains and mid-20s F in the southern mountains. Temperatures this morning are in the high-teens F in the south and low-30s F in the north. Wind is blowing west-southwest at 15-20 mph with gusts in the 30s. Today will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the 30s F. Wind will remain out of the west-southwest with speeds increasing to 30 mph this afternoon. Light snow will begin tonight with 1-3” by morning, and another 3-6” is possible tomorrow night.
Under partly cloudy skies winds are blowing west-northwest at 30-40 mph in the Bridger Range and 10-15 mph with gusts of 30 elsewhere. There’s been no new snow in the last 48 hours and temperatures this morning are in the mid 20s with mid-teens in the southern mountains. Today will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the low 30s. No snow is expected until Friday.
There’s been no new snow in the last 24 hours, just wind. Blowing west, speeds are strongest in the northern mountains, averaging 35 mph with gusts in the 40s. In Taylor Fork, West Yellowstone and Cooke City winds are westerly and averaging 10-15 mph with gusts of 20. At 5 a.m. under clear skies temperatures are in the low teens, but 1F at Lulu Pass outside Cooke City. Temperatures will warm into the 20s and high clouds will roll in later this afternoon, but no snow is expected.
A moist northwest flow delivered abundant snow to the northern ranges overnight. At 4 a.m. Shower Falls Snotel site in the northern Gallatin Range picked up ten inches of new snow, while the Bridger Range and mountains around Big Sky picked up 5-7 inches. The mountains around West Yellowstone squeezed out 1-2 inches while the mountains around Cooke City remained mostly dry. Currently, snow has tapered off and temperatures range from the single digits to mid-teens F. Winds are blowing 5-20 mph out of the W-NW. Today, a northwest flow will produce a slight chance of snow showers in the northern mountains, although no real accumulation is expected. Skies will clear throughout the day and some sun is expected by this afternoon. Temperatures will warm into the upper teens to mid-20s F and winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-NW.
