February has been a snowy month. The mountains around Cooke City have received new snow nearly every day over the past three weeks - totaling 8.7 inches of SWE (snow water equivalent) since February 1st.

The Bridger Range Cooke City
The Bridger Range and mountains around Cooke City are a world apart, but have similar snowpack conditions. Both areas have received heavy amounts of snow and wind recently which has elevated the avalanche danger.

This slide was photographed on Thursday, February 13, 2014 during an Avalanche Warning for the mountains around Cooke City. It occurred on ESE facing slopes on Barronette Mountain which is just inside Yellowstone N.P. just before the Northeast Entrance Gate. There are many well known ice climbs on this mountain. Photo: N.
