The second rider triggered this slope as he cut across it. It broke 2+ feet, 200 feet wide and ran approx 1,800 feet vertical. The starting zone was on an ENE facing slope. Photo by: Anon

This avalanche was triggered by a rider on Feb 7th or 8th on the north side of Sheep Mountain. I expect we'll continue to see small slides like these as well as a few larger ones from riders spreading far and wide in search of untracked powder. Photo: Jay Pape

Surface hoar buried 18" deep is fracturing clean. As we skinned uphill we got collapsing and cracking on this layer. Our Extended Column Test propagated with 5 taps (see video). Isolating a column for a compression Test the surface hoar broke before I even tapped it (CTV, Q1). This slope was 20 degrees steep and east facing in the southern Madison Range. Photo by GNFAC
