This morning clear skies are creating a strong temperature inversion. Currently, valley temps are below zero while mountains temps range from the single digits to mid-teens above zero F. Winds are blowing 5-20 mph out of the W-SW. Today, temps will warm into the upper teens to mid-20s F under clear skies and winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-SW. The weather pattern remains high and dry through the weekend. 

High pressure will be the dominant weather pattern over the next few days. This will result in clear skies, calm winds and strong temperature inversions. At 5 a.m. temps are in the single digits above zero and winds are blowing 5-20 mph out of the W-SW. Today, there will be plenty of sunshine and temps will warm into upper teens to mid-20s F. Winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-SW.

In the last 24 hours the mountains have picked up more snow. Around Bozeman 2-3” fell last night; the mountains from Big Sky to West Yellowstone got 2-4” last night on top of the 8-12” from the previous night, and in Cooke City 3” fell on top of the 2’ measured yesterday morning. The storm is over, winds are west at 10-15 mph with gusts of 30 and temperatures in the single digits to low teens. Today will become clear, winds will be light and temperatures will reach the high teens.

Since yesterday morning the mountains around Cooke City received 8” of new snow. The mountains around Big Sky and West Yellowstone received 5-7” while the mountains around Bozeman picked up 1-3”. At 5 a.m. Bridger Bowl is the cold spot with a temperature of -10 F being recorded at the Alpine weather station. Temperatures in the mountains south of Bozeman range from the single digits to mid-teens F. Winds are currently blowing 10-25 mph out of the W-SW, but gusts upwards of 40 mph were recorded last night. Today, snow will continue in the southern mountains including the Big Sky area where an additional 4-6” will accumulate by tomorrow morning. The mountains near Bozeman will pick up 1-3”. Winds will remain out of the W-SW at 10-20 mph and temperatures will warm into the teens to low 20s F. 

Since yesterday morning the northern mountains, including the Big Sky area, picked up 2-4” while the southern mountains received 4+” around West Yellowstone and double that around Cooke City. The snowfall amounts in the south are not reliable. Around Cooke City weather stations are showing 4” but ski guides reported over a foot. West winds continue to blow 20-40 mph with gusts in the 50s. This morning mountain temperatures are 10-18F under cloudy skies. Flurries today and snowfall tonight will drop 3-4” in the north and 4-6” in the south by morning.

Since yesterday morning the mountains received 2” of new snow near Bozeman, 4-7” near Big Sky and West Yellowstone, and 12” near Cooke City. At 4 a.m. temperatures are high 20s to low 30s F. It was cold enough that rain overnight was unlikely, but the new snow is heavy. Wind overnight was out of the west to southwest at 25-40 mph with gusts of 50-60 mph. Today, temperatures will reach the low 30s F and cool to the 20s F this evening. Wind will be westerly at 30-40 mph. By morning the mountains will get 2-4” of snow near Bozeman and Big Sky, 5-7” near West Yellowstone, and 8-10” near Cooke City.

Warmer, snowy weather is here. Temperatures at 4 a.m. are teens to low 20s F. The mountains received 4-6” of new snow near Big Sky, West Yellowstone and Cooke City, and 2” near Bozeman. Wind overnight was out of the west to southwest at 15-30 mph with gusts of 40-50 mph. Today, temperatures will be in the high 20s F with westerly wind at 20-30 mph. Light snow showers today will become heavier tonight. By tomorrow morning the southern mountains will have 6-8” of heavy new snow and the northern ranges will have 2-4”.

Temperatures this morning are below zero F around West Yellowstone and Cooke City, and single digits to low teens F elsewhere. Wind has been out of the west to southwest at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. The mountains have not received any new snow since Tuesday. Today, temperatures will be in the teens F and wind will be out of the southwest at 15-20 mph. Cloud cover will increase through the day and the mountains will have 2-3” of new snow by tomorrow morning.
