A Gallatin Snow Ranger has spotted many small wet slides like this one in the Crazies on clear sunny days. Similar ones can be expected throughout the advisory area on south facing slopes. Though small these wet slides are heavy and can cause serious injury even if they don't bury you. Photo - B. Bolte

These wet slab avalanches occured on a southeast aspect on Bald Peak near Lionhead during recent warm weather and ran just over 1000 ft vertical.  They broke on facets near the ground that lost strength as they became wet.  Dry slabs fail when more stress is added to a weak layer.  Wet slabs fail when liquid water decreases the strength of the weak layer.
